Justsayingmum Does Vlogging!

OK, so firstly, eeeek, eeeek, and more eeeek … I’ve only gone and recorded my first vlog! So, definitely an eeeek moment!

I’ve been mulling over the idea of starting a Just Saying Mum vlog for a few weeks now and I’m pleased to announce that I ย finally took the plunge … believe me, these things take some courage of huge proportions! The vlog focuses on chats with my teens, looking at real issues in a non-edited style to give a real live feel to the vlogs … ha ha, I think I very much achieved that!

The first is with my daughter, Georgia, who is my oldest and I posed the following questions:

  1. What do teens really want from their parents?
  2. What don’t they want?

Ha ha, I know, am I mad? ย Do I really want to know the answers to these questions in a live format with no editing? Well, I went for it … as you’ll see below!

I will also be exploring issues that arise from the vlogs and calling in expert teen counselling help to ensure that my videos will be informative to those with teens or pre-teens. So, if you have any subjects around raising teens that you would like discussed please get in touch and I will do my best to research and discuss from my teens’ perspective or from the views of counsellors and teen experts.

Take a look … I’d love your feedback … I’d love your views … and I’d love your suggestions of topics!

Thank you for watching … you absolute stars … just saying!

  2. This made me smile so much Helen. As you know, I have two teenage daughters and a son of 11 and yours is probably the only blog with very similar age children. Your girl is clearly very in favour of her mum – you’re doing so well! I will continue watching for fabulous tips. Oh and yes, you’re both stunningly beautiful too. Looking forward to hearing from you son ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Congrats on your first vlog! I really enjoyed watching you and Georgia (both so natural, comfortable and gorgeous) as I have teenagers at home too. The “mobile phone” is sacred here too but at least we know what is their achilles heel. Look forward to watching you and your son next. #bloggerclubuk

    1. Oh thank you so much! Took some nerve but glad I took the plunge now – so many ideas and have just finished a meeting with 2 teen counsellors who are going to come on board so really exciting things to come – well hopefully! 1. I will! But where would I start? Exciting about the teen counsellors. I think our teens face many “new” issues that are totally alien to our generation – only because of technology. Growing up was so much simpler back then.

  6. This is excellent! I have three teens and a tween, all daughters, plus a 21 year old step daughter and a step son. I will be watching your vlogs with interest! You and your daughter are naturals. I think that it is a brilliant idea and a great format. I’m already looking forward to the next one. Good to link up via #ablogginggoodtime Alison x

  7. Congratulations on your first vlog! It’s lovely to hear from both you and your daughter. So many mum bloggers have much younger children, so it’s refreshing to see that you can involve yours in your blogging. #TribalLove #ablogginggoodtime

  8. haha! don’t confiscate her phone and don’t give her a curfew lol – sounds a lot like my teen!

This was great! Really insightful as your daughter is slightly older than my teen and its really interesting to hear her speak! What a great idea!

Maybe you could tackle the ‘girls falling out’ issue with her in one vlog? My teen sometimes has a few issues with her friends as all girls do, but I am sometimes unsure about what I should be doing about it?! Do I leave it? after all kids will be kids, girls will be girls. Do I let her figure it out? do I say something when it gets a bit bad? I never really know my boundaries with that stuff. And although 9 times out of 10 its nothing, I do feel for her when she get really upset and sheds a tear (and then they’r fine again the next week) its tricky…. maybe with your daughter being older she might have a better insight on it all..

Gorgeous gorgeous mother and daughter btw.. you guys look great! #coolmumsclub

    1. Thank you so much for this comment and your gorgeously kind words! I love that topic of conversation and I will certainly get this under discussion – I was thinking of interviewing the girls with their friends and talking about what they need from a friend and what they don’t – I’ll incorporate your angle in too as will be very interesting – thank you so much for your comment xx

  9. This is a fab first vlog and a really great idea. I would have been annoyed if my parents took my phone when I was a teenager but it sounds like it really works as a punishment! You and tour daughter are both gorge by the way :). Look forward to hearing your son’s perspective xx #blogginggoodtime

  10. Oh my goodness you are SO BRAVE! The thought of vlogging terrifies me. I think you did a great job as did your daughter, she’s a little beaut (her Mother’s daughter!). Think I may need some ‘Dutch courage’ beforehand which could be dangerous – maybe that could be my theme – drunk vlogging!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m dreading the teenage years so will be watching future vlogs with interest. #ablogginggoodtime

    1. Oh thank you so much for your gorgeous feedback! I can’t believe I did it considering I spend most of my time telling the children to keep men out of shot when they take photos! Don’t dread the teenage years – I’ll be here with heaps of advice – may not be right but will have plenty of material what with having three of them! Thank you for your comment lovely xx

  11. Well done you! I’m very impressed I’ve thought about blogging but don’t have the guts! This is brilliant and very insightful to what I have to come in the teenage years. If my boys are as close to me as your daughter is to you then I’ve achieved everything I’ve set out to. Thank you for joining us at #BloggerClubUK hope to see you again next week X

  13. I love this – so natural and I think it’s great unedited. You are both complete naturals and it really shows the wonderful relationship you have. I have to say, if my stepson is as lovely as Georgia at 17, we’ll be doing great! I though Georgia’s comment about the phone punishment was great too…one I have heard before haha. More please ๐Ÿ™‚ xx #triballove #ablogginggoodtime

  14. I usually avoid watching vlogs as I just think it’s a whole new thing that I could get sucked into…however, this was a lovely way to spend 5 mins as it’s so natural and you are both so likable. It’s also VERY useful as although I have much younger children I teach secondary school kids and can see so many of my Y12 form members in Georgia’s comments!!! I have decided to be more relaxed about phones in form time and I can see this will help my relationship with my students as a result! Great 1st blog – congrats. x #fortheloveofBLOG x
